Everton are on the verge of completing a deal to sign Tyler Dibling from Southampton in a £40m deal according to The Athletic's David Ornstein.
The two clubs are finalising the structure of the agreement, which is set to include a 20 per cent sell-on clause for Southampton. Personal terms with the 19-year-old winger have been agreed in principle and, should all go to plan, he is expected to undergo a medical early next week.
Talks between the clubs have been ongoing in recent days. Everton’s initial £40m offer was rejected, with Southampton responding with a proposal worth £45m plus £5m in achievable bonuses, alongside a 25 per cent sell-on clause. That valuation proved beyond what Everton were prepared to meet, leading them to briefly consider alternative targets.
Southampton had been reluctant to lower their demands, insisting Dibling is the best young English talent available on the market. The winger is under contract at St Mary’s until 2027.
Despite the south coast side’s stance, progress has now been made towards a compromise, with Everton edging closer to securing their fifth signing of the summer.
Dibling has been gradually integrated into Southampton’s senior squad. Although he did not feature in their opening two matches of the campaign, he came off the bench in the 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town last weekend.
Last season, he made 38 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals and registering three assists as he established himself as a first-team regular.
