Inter Milan wingback Carlos Augusto feels the win over Juventus was vital in his club’s path towards the Serie A title.

The Brazilian joined the Nerazzurri last summer, completing a move from Monza. He managed to win the Scudetto at the first time of asking.

However, the 25-year-old isn’t planning to rest on his laurels, but aims for more accomplishments. He would like to start a winning cycle.

“I was dreaming of making my debut in the Champions League. Now we can raise the bar further,” said Augusto in his interview with Globo Esporte via FcInter1908.

“We want to win the Serie A several times with Inter, opening a winning cycle. We are aiming to win it all.

“I’m very satisfied with my campaign. Obviously, every player always wants more, but I think my role was to help the team and be ready when needed. I made an important leap.”

The Brazil international described what it was like to win the Scudetto title in the Derby della Madonnina.

“It was a very tense match, but our team was prepared and wanted to win this title against Milan. This was not an extra pressure, but a motivation.

“We are Inter, we enter all competitions aiming to win. The Champions League, Coppa Italia… But we had made the second star our main objective.”

Augusto also revealed how Inter captain Lautaro Martinez helped him settle upon his arrival.

“He’s a very calm individual. When I arrived at the club, he helped me a lot. He showed me how things work, what it means to wear the Inter shirt.

“He’s a young lad, but represents a lot for us with the captain’s armband. He is always there for everyone, those who play regularly and those who play less.”

The former Monza man is also grateful to his head coach Simone Inzaghi who offers fatherly advice.

“Inzaghi helped me a lot, as he does with everyone. Even more so those who play less. He manages to give you that motivation.

“He often talks to me, especially because I play two roles, and gives me important advice.

“The coach told me that he would use me in these two positions due to my characteristics.

“He tells me to remain calm, believe in my qualities, play a good game, help the team. It’s more like the advice of a father than a great coach.

“Even more so because I fit into the characteristics of the team. When the new players arrive, he helps them understand how the team plays, and what the team’s game system is like. He gave me advice on how he wanted to play. This helped me adapt faster.”

Finally, the wingback identified the win over Juventus in early February as the most important moment in the club’s domestic campaign.

“I think the key moment for us was the February run, when Juventus were second and only one point away.

“And there was the Derby d’Italia against them. In the end, we won, and this made us believe even more.

“We have experienced players, who have won a lot, they are players who have won the World Cup, the Champions League and I think they have helped the group a lot, especially the younger ones.
