Borussia Mönchengladbach have sold Luxembourg international Yvandro Borges Sanches to Heracles Almelo. Although the 21-year-old attacking midfielder technically moves to the Eredivisie on a permanent basis, transfermarkt.de reports that the Bundesliga outfit has secured a €2.5m buyback option in addition to a €500,000 transfer fee.

Borges Sanchez was promoted to the Gladbach senior team in the summer of 2022. He made his Gladbach senior team debut on matchday six of the 2022/23 campaign. He earned three relief appearances under then BMG head coach Daniel Farke that season. Gerardo Seoane also gave Borges Sanchez three substitute appearances during the first half of the 2023/24 campaign.

The now 26-times-capped international got his name on a Bundesliga scoresheet once, registering an assist after drawing a late penalty in Gladbach’s dramatic 4-4 opening day draw against Augsburg. In both years, Borges Sanches found himself incurring injuries. An unfortunate ACL rupture in January 2023 was followed up by a series of muscle tears.

Borges Sanches has already spent some time on loan in the Eredivisie, working with NEC Nijmegen in the second half of the 2023/24 season. He made eight appearances for the Dutch outfit before another ACL injury sidelined him for nearly a year. The youngster was able to make four appearances with the Gladbach reserves last spring despite more injury setbacks.

Yvandro is still a young player with potential,” Gladbach sporting director Roland Virkus noted in a club statement. “Unfortunately, he has had a lot of bad luck with injuries in recent years, which has set him back again and again and caused him to lose his touch. He approached us with a desire for a fresh start in the Dutch league and we accommodated this.”

It’s an interesting team with a lot of quality,” the player himself added of his new home in East Holland. “I can develop further in this team and take the next steps in my career as a player. I’m also impressed by the excellent conditions. You can feel everywhere here that the club is alive and on the rise. That appeals to me.
