Bild reports that Cole Campbell’s move to VfB Stuttgart is at risk as Borussia Dortmund have decided they may keep the 19-year-old.
Campbell had agreed to a move to Stuttgart and was expected to have his medical at Mercedestraße soon, but instead, he will now turn up to Dortmund’s pre-season training once he has recovered from food poisoning.
The injury to Julien Duranville and the sale of Jamie Gittens, Dortmund are now reconsidering their stance on the 19-year-old, as it could cost €20m to replace him.
On top of this, despite Campbell still being open to moving south, Dortmund and Stuttgart are not in agreement when it comes to the type of move. Die Schwarzgelben would prefer to loan the American out, and if he were to leave, they also want a buy-back option.
Campbell wants to leave Dortmund in search of playing time with the aim of trying to reach the USA national team for the World Cup next summer, in the US.
Despite completing several deals early on, Stuttgart are having a tough time finalising transfers recently after pulling out of a deal for Nürnberg’s Caspar Jander and PAOK’s owner vetoing a transfer for Giannis Konstantelias.
