Most people expected Bologna to suffer in Serie A this season, after their fantastic campaign which saw them qualify for the Champions League last season. However, despite their manager Thiago Motta leaving along with a number of key players, they sit 4th at the time of writing. This has been made possible thanks to Vincenzo Italiano.Dan Ndoye, who played a crucial part in Bologna’s rise over the last couple of seasons, spoke to the Swiss broadcaster RMC to explain the differences between the gameplan of the two managers. With Motta, he said, wingers like himself were instructed to stay wide by the touchline so that the midfielders and defenders could occupy the centre of the pitch. Under Italiano, he feels he has more freedom to attack the goal and this his goalscoring numbers have increased. He also mentioned how under the latter, Bologna have become one of the best pressing teams in Europe. The Swiss international had further praise for the current boss Italiano, stating, (via TMW) “He really knows how to talk to players, getting the best out of them. And on the pitch he instilled in us the desire to apply high pressure, to never be afraid. This also makes the difference, we are always faithful to our philosophy, both with the big teams and with those fighting for survival”.
