Bologna Centerpiece Surely Open to Napoli Transfer

Napoli are reportedly eyeing Bologna ace Lewis Ferguson, and the interest is mutual, as the midfielder is keen on the destination. His agent Bill McCurdo took stock of his client to TeleCapri.

“His season didn’t start well due to an ACL tear, but he has recovered quickly and is drawing interest from all over, both in Italy and Europe. There’s a chance he continues in Serie A but not with Bologna.”

The Partenopei inquired about him in the past, but his big knee problem stopped the talks.

“A year ago, at around this time, they lodged a very concrete inquiry. I’m sure that the story could have gone in that direction if it weren’t for his injury.”

The agent of Ferguson heaped praise on Napoli coach Antonio Conte.

“He’d appreciate any indication from a gaffer like him. He has always paid close attention to those, as he started as an offensive-minded midfielder but didn’t have reservations when asked to handle more defensive tasks, becoming a box-to-box. Last year, he had a spectacular bond with Thiago Motta, but he created a special one with Vincenzo Italiano too this season. From a technical standpoint, he managed to find his place in both formations.”

Ferguson is in touch with his compatriots who star for Napoli, Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour, which could be a factor in determining his future.

“They talk often, maybe also about the Azzurri. Before moving to Italy last summer, they asked him about Serie A. He told them just to put pen to paper without thinking twice about it because he feels great here.”
