Oscar Bobb says an eight-month spell on the sidelines last season has only made him more hungry and determined to make up for lost time – starting at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
Having made a superb first team breakthrough in the 2023/24 campaign, the attacking midfielder then shone again on the Club’s pre-season summer tour to the United States in the summer of 2024.
Bobb was primed to kick on again at the outset of the 2024/25.
However, a freak injury sustained in a training session at the CFA saw the Norwegian sustain a fractured leg.
It was a cruel and bitter blow.
Not only did it deprive Pep Guardiola of one of his most promising young stars, it also prevented the 21-year from taking the next step forward in his burgeoning career.
However, after a gruelling, lengthy spell of recovery and rehabilitation amid the odd setback – which is the subject of a forthcoming CITY+ documentary - Bobb made his long-awaited return to action in early April, coming on as a substitute in our 2-0 home win over Leicester to a rapturous reception.
After further cameos from the bench in our home league wins against Crystal Palace and Bournemouth, Bobb is now out in the United States as part of our FIFA Club World Cup 2025 squad.
He came on to impressive effect in the second half of City’s 2-0 win over Wydad AC in our opening Group G encounter.
And as the focus switched to our second group clash against Al Ain which takes place in Atlanta later this weekend, Bobb admitted he had returned armed with an even greater appreciation for the game.
“I think once I started running again, kicking the ball, training with the team, I was even happier than I've been before, so definitely [you appreciate it more],” the Norwegian international said.
“I think [the Club World Cup and the new season] will be a fresh start for me and for the team and I think from here on out.
“For me it's great to be back. I feel very good and happy to be here, excited and it's great to be with the team.
“It was tough at times but the club offered great support and I was always thinking of coming back stronger so it was all good.
“I came back around February and then got a bit overload and that kept me out for a few weeks.
“But then after that I've been fine.
“Obviously getting the fitness back takes some time but now I feel great.
“It's a fresh start for me and the team from here I think we can just build."
