It has not even been a couple of months since Kyogo left Celtic. The Japanese forward had been a regular starter for the Hoops for his entire three-and-a-half-year run in Glasgow. He decided to leave in the winter though, without even playing in the Champions League knockout phase tie, in order to join Rennes.

The motivation to play at the next World Cup for Japan is believed to have been the primary reason behind his decision to leave Celtic. It is true that he had been overlooked for the national team on a number of occasions despite consistently scoring goals and winning trophies for the Scottish giant.

So, it is easy to understand why he felt that playing in a top-five European league might hold the key. Unfortunately though, Kyogo is rarely getting any game time these days.

Kyogo has found himself spending most of his time sitting on the bench at Rennes. He was not helped by the fact that Jorge Sampaoli was sacked just days after the Japanese forward arrived at the French club. On a number of occasions, he has not even been brought on as a substitute. That must be a hard pill to swallow for someone who was enjoying superstar status at Celtic just weeks earlier.

Could that lead to a Celtic return for Kyogo? As reported by the Daily Record, Michael Gannon said:

"For £3.5m do you go and buy him back? Where else are you going to get a £3.5m player like Kyogo. It's an absolute no-brainer"

Celtic have not been afraid to bring back players in recent times. Jota rejoined the club in the winter, incidentally from Rennes. Kieran Tierney will be heading back to Glasgow in the summer, with a pre-contract agreement already in place for the Arsenal left-back.

Could Kyogo be the next name to join that list? Time shall tell. Celtic do need to sign a striker in the summer. If the right opportunity presents itself, why not go for it?
