In their bid to sign a new centre-forward, Blackburn should consider towering Wolves man Kalajdzic - even if he comes with one massive risk attached

Blackburn Rovers have just a few days left of the transfer window to add to their squad, and there will be wishes of a new striker arriving at Valerien Ismael's door by 7pm on September 1.

Not one Rovers player hit double figures for Championship goals last season despite their seventh-placed finish - Japanese striker Yuki Ohashi was the top scorer with nine league strikes, but 14 goals in the form of Tyrhys Dolan and Andi Weimann have departed for pastures new this summer.

It makes the need for a new central striker to add to Ohashi and Makhtar Gueye very important, and in the final week of the window, Alan Nixon has claimed that Lorient's Senegalese attacker Sambou Soumano is on the radar of the Lancashire outfit, although the French side want around €5 million for the 24-year-old.

That could prove to be a stumbling block for Ismael and the Blackburn hierarchy, and instead, they may have to dip into the loan market for a short-term fix - could that solution be sitting at Molineux in the Wolverhampton Wanderers squad?

Wolves forward Sasa Kalajdzic needs to be on Blackburn Rovers radar

Austrian striker Sasa Kalajdzic arrived at Wolves in the summer of 2022 after signing from Bundesliga side Stuttgart for £15m.

The 6ft 7in forward gained a good reputation overseas in Germany as he impressed in his four-year spell at the club. Kalajdzic scored 24 goals for the club in a mere 60 appearances, including a 16-league goal season in 2020/21 which led to major interest, resulting in Wolves being the ones to earn his signature.

Since his successful time playing in the Bundesliga, life in England has never seemed to get going for the Austrian, having only featured 14 times in the Premier League.

Injury concerns have played a big part in Kalajdzic's stop-start career so far. He has had three ACL tears between 2019 and 2024 - one of those prior to his arrival at Wolves - that have halted his progression and the chance of consistent game time in the Black Country.

Fast-forward to now, and the big Austrian can't seem to find a way into the Wolves side.

With Jorgen Strand Larsen being heavily linked with a move away from Molineux this window, you'd seem to think that his departure could give Kalajdzic greater opportunity, although they're trying to add a new forward on top of keeping the Norwegian star at the club.

However, having been given limited minutes in pre-season and subsequently left out of the squad in their recent away trip to Bournemouth, this could spell danger for the once-prolific striker.

A move to the Championship in the way of Blackburn Rovers could be a chance to rediscover his goalscoring form and challenge their current striker Yuri Ohashi for a starting spot.

But, with injury concerns being an ever-present worry throughout his career, if Rovers were to sign him, it would be seen as a massive risk, even if he has obvious quality.

Game-time has very much come at a premium for Kalajdzic, who hasn't played over 15 league games in a season since the 2021/22 campaign with Stuttgart.

A potential move to Blackburn by shifting down a division could be a sensible move for the player's career to get back on track after a horrific injury record, even if it's just a temporary one to try and get him back on track.

As well as on a personal note, Blackburn could heavily benefit from the 28-year-old's services, as he has proven earlier in his career that he is no stranger to finding the back of the net - it is just waiting to be unlocked.

The Riversiders have some very creative talents in their ranks, such as Todd Cantwell, who has got off to a flying start this season, as well as the pacey Augustus Kargbo, who has the potential to get whip in dangerous crosses for the Austrian to latch on to.
