Gassama could be one of several departures from Hillsborough
Blackburn Rovers have lodged an enquiry to Sheffield Wednesday as they plot a transfer move for Djeidi Gassama.
That is according to a fresh update from Alan Nixon via Patreon, with the Owls reportedly looking to cash in on several players as uncertainty continues to rumble on at Hillsborough, with the new Championship season edging ever closer.
Dejphon Chansiri has come under ever-growing fire for his running of the club from supporters and onlookers as the bleak situation in S6 continues to develop, and it has now been claimed that the Frenchman, alongside the highly-rated Northern Ireland international goalkeeper, Pierce Charles, namedropped as two players involved in a potential fire-sale.
Rovers have had a mixed start to their summer business after missing out on the play-offs on the final day of last season, with former boss John Eustace poaching Danny Batth and Andreas Weimman as the duo joined Derby County, although Sidnei Tavares and Dion De Neve have joined from Moreirense and KV Kortrijk thus far.
It is still yet to be confirmed, but Valerien Ismael looks set to lose the attacking flair and talent of Tyrhys Dolan ahead of his first full season in charge at Ewood Park, meaning reinforcements in this department are a must, and capitalising on the situation in the Steel City would represent another exciting transfer for the Frenchman.
The Owls' predicament has been well-documented at length, with Danny Rohl informing the squad that he will not return for the new season, whilst six players have handed in their notices to depart the club after failing to receive their wage packets for the months of May and June, having also had problems regarding the same issue back in March.
Nixon's fresh update on the situation at Hillsborough states that Chansiri is now looking to move players on to raise adequate funds and income ahead of a likely battle against HMRC, with Wednesday also under registration and transfer restriction embargos as a result of failing to pay such wages on time.
It has also been claimed that Chansiri has grown increasingly annoyed with the fact he is yet to sell the club to a fresh ownership group - despite fresh conflicting reports that a takeover is in the pipeline - and that the situation has left him with little choice but to move players on.
Nixon states that Gassama is valued in the region of £2.5m at present, with Blackburn said to have lodged an enquiry for the 21-year-old.
A fee is yet to be agreed between the two Championship rivals, although the aforementioned price tag could drop as time goes on, as Ismael looks to bring his compatriot across the Pennines and land a major transfer coup.
Gassama moved to South Yorkshire in August 2023 from PSG, and has been one of the brightest sparks in a testing period for the Owls during the past two seasons.
The former France Under-20 international has scored 12 times and registered a further four assists in 84 appearances for Wednesday thus far, with it being believed that he penned an initial three-year deal at Hillsborough after his switch from the French giants.
With several key performers expected to leave the club, it wouldn't surprise many to see Gassama be one of those, and Blackburn could be beneficiaries in more ways than one, as the wide man has the capabilities to make an immediate impact in East Lancashire as well as landing the club millions of pounds in the future, should his trajectory continue in such a positive manner.
