Morrison paid homage to his former Blues counterpart after his last professional game on Saturday
Former Birmingham City captain Michael Morrison has paid tribute to Lukas Jutkiewicz after the striker played his last professional game on Saturday against his current employers, Cambridge United.
Blues and Morrison's current outfit will be two divisions apart next season after their respective promotions and relegations to the Championship and League Two, with Chris Davies' side rounding off their record-breaking League One campaign with a 2-1 victory at the Abbey Stadium.
Jutkiewicz certainly played his part in Birmingham taking their overall points haul to a world-record figure of 111 and an EFL-high 34 wins in a season, forcing U's defender, Kell Watts, into scoring an own-goal eight minutes from time, before being serenaded by Bluenoses afterward and following the full-time whistle.
It had already been announced that the 36-year-old will be taking up a new role at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park heading into next season. However, that didn't stop his former colleague from joining the masses of supporters, current and former players who have paid tribute to Jutkiewicz as his 19-year professional career drew to a close.
Morrison and Jutkiewicz took to the field together 100 times for Blues before the experienced defender ended his association with the West Midlands outfit back in 2019.
During a three-year stint together as colleagues, the B9 club endured three successive end-of-season survival battles and five permanent managers despite beginning such a period under the management of Gary Rowett whilst hunting down a spot in the Championship play-offs.
Overall, 'The Juke' has gone on to play 357 of his 648 professional games for the club, finding the net on 68 occasions, with his last coming in a memorable 6-2 victory over Barnsley in front of the Tilton last month.
After spending nine years as a player at St Andrew's after an initial loan-turned £1m move from Burnley, he has left a significant impression on many, including the Cambridge defender, who posted a message of his own on Instagram.
He began: "Congratulations @lukeyjuke on an incredible career. Proper blues legend!
"Was great to share the pitch with you as a team mate for all them years, and then to be on the pitch in your final game was a privilege. Football has provided me with more than just a team mate, but family friends for life.
"What a season for @bcfc. Great to see you get the send off you deserve. KRO," he concluded.
Unsurprisingly, this was met with plenty of heartwarming responses towards Morrison by Blues supporters, as well as former teammates such as Maxime Colin and Viv Solomon-Otabor.
Whilst his playing career has concluded and the full extent of Jutkiewicz's post-retirement role hasn't been revealed yet, there's no doubt that he will continue to have a strong influence behind-the-scenes at St Andrew's.
The striker has openly admitted that he hasn't wanted the spotlight to be on him during the final weeks of his career and lengthy association as a player for Blues, whilst Davies has continuously praised his leadership abilities that have played a strong part in such a historic season.
The future in this part of the Second City is one filled with excitement as a 60,000-capacity stadium
