Beth Mead has explained the ‘snapping’ celebration that has been seen by England players during Women’s Euro 2025.
Both the Arsenal star and Chelsea’s Aggie-Beever Jones were seen snapping their fingers towards the bench after scoring in England’s 6-1 victory against Wales.
If you’ve been following England during Euro 2025, you might have noticed players on the bench snapping their fingers in celebration after goals and big moments. What began as a playful inside joke soon took on deeper significance.
Beth Mead has shared the story behind it following England’s 6-1 victory over Wales at Euro 2025.
“I think we often overlook how tough it can be for those on the bench, especially players who don’t get much time on the pitch.” With limited minutes, the bench players wanted a way to stay connected and engaged in the game.
“Before the match started, we were all snapping as a little boost of motivation and energy for each other.”
Mead added that the snapping evolved beyond just fun, it became a symbol of unity: “You can see the connections. It’s great to see more players scoring and still working together. This tournament is intense.”
She also noted that the voices from the sidelines helps keep morale high and ensures everyone feels involved in the team’s performance.
England’s campaign got off to a rocky start with a 2–1 loss to France. Alessia Russo thought she had opened the scoring in that match, but her goal was ruled out for offside after a tight VAR decision against Beth Mead.
France went on to score twice before England responded.
But the Lionesses bounced back in style. Against the Netherlands, they delivered a dominant 4–0 performance, playing with confidence and intensity.
The snapping celebration appeared again as the squad came alive, both on the pitch and on the bench.
That momentum continued into the final group game. England beat Wales 6–1 in a statement win. Beth Mead got on the scoresheet and praised her teammates afterward, calling Ella Toone “unbelievable” for her creativity and composure.
Mead has come off the bench for England in their last two games after starting their opener against France.
After securing two convincing victories, England finished second in their group and earned a spot in the quarter-finals, where they’ll take on Sweden on July 17th.
According to the UK’s top betting sites, England are 10/11 favourites to beat Sweden and reach the Euro 2025 semi-finals. Sweden are priced at 23/10 to win in 90 minutes, while a draw after 90 minutes is priced at 2/1.
The early defeat now feels like a distant memory. The team looks sharper, more connected, and more confident with every game.
As they head into the knockouts, the snapping celebration is likely to stay.
Whether on the pitch or on the bench, the Lionesses are proving that they’re in this together. And with the squad clicking into gear, England fans have every reason to believe there’s more to come.
