Hübner is currently Nageslmann’s preferred candidate to replace Wagner, and talks between Hoffenheim and the DFB are already underway. The former defender is currently the assistant manager to Christian Ilzer at Hoffenheim, who narrowly avoided dropping into the relegation playoff on the final day of the season.

Former Nagelsmann assistant Alfred Schreuder was also linked with the role. It is possible that Schreuder could also be appointed as Nagelsmann’s assistant down the line as a more experienced option, alongside Hübner.

Hübner played 69 games under Nagelsmann when the latter was head coach of Hoffenheim.
