This has been quite a jarring week for Real Madrid fans, who have had to deal with the news of Luka Modric’s exit.
The Croatian international won’t continue at Santiago Bernabeu and will be leaving the club after 13 years of non-stop service.
Modric will join Carlo Ancelotti and Lucas Vazquez through the exit door as Real Madrid brace themselves for a new era, which will led by Xabi Alonso, the club’s new coach.
According to MARCA, Real Madrid will officially present Xabi Alonso as their new head coach on Monday morning at Valdebebas, just 48 hours after Ancelotti, Modric, and Lucas Vazquez bid farewell.
It appears the club are wasting no time in turning the page. Alonso, fresh from his historic season with Bayer Leverkusen, arrives on a three-year contract with the clear objective of bringing a fresh identity to the team.

With the FIFA Club World Cup on the horizon – starting June 14 in the United States – the new coach has little time to settle in.
Alonso will be joined by four assistants, including trusted aide Sebas Parrilla, former Leverkusen fitness coach Ismael Camenforte, and Benat Labaien. Veteran fitness coach Antonio Pintus will also remain with the first team.
This appointment marks a full-circle moment for Alonso, who starred as a midfield leader during his playing days at Madrid and now returns to lead from the sidelines.
As one generation fades out—marked by the exits of Modric and Ancelotti—another begins with Alonso and a likely shake-up in squad dynamics.
Dani Carvajal is expected to inherit the captain’s armband and one can expect a few more changes as Alonso looks to start imposing his presence in the Real Madrid dressing room.
