Some interesting comments from this BBC Sport pundit on Eddie Howe and Newcastle United.

Chris Sutton speaking ahead of Saturday afternoon at Spurs.

Eddie Howe and his Newcastle United players looking to make it six wins in a row.

Sixteen goals and five dominant performances overwhelming Leicester, Brentford, Ipswich, Aston Villa and Man U.

Tottenham are now up next.

Chris Sutton talking to BBC Sport – 2 January 2025:

“Newcastle’s form is incredible, with five wins on the spin in all competitions.

“They have scored 16 goals in those games, with only one conceded.

“Tottenham, in contrast, are on a poor run of results – although they did not perform badly in their defeat by Nottingham Forest or in their draw with Wolves last time out.

“This is going to be a great game and, while I think Spurs will score, I just can’t go against Newcastle at the moment.

“Eddie Howe’s side have got goals in them and it is not just Alexander Isak who is a threat – Jacob Murphy is playing really well and their midfield of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton looks very strong.

“Prediction: Spurs 1 Newcastle 2”

I find it difficult to disagree with pretty much any of this from the BBC Sport pundit.

It is over two months since Spurs won a Premier League match at home, their last five have seen three defeats and two draws, with a massive 15 goals conceded 12 of those in the most recent three home PL games.

As Chris Sutton points out, Newcastle United now scoring for fun and playing so well. Although actually, they could and should have scored even more than the 16 goals they have managed, these last five games. On Monday, NUFC could and should have scored four and five in that opening half hour at Old Trafford as the overwhelmed the home side.

With the problems Spurs are having in defence, if Newcastle play as they have done in these last five games, especially that opening half hour against Man U, very difficult to see anything other than an away victory.

Just a case of the Newcastle United players going out and exerting their dominance yet again. As the BBC Sport man says, Newcastle’s midfield are in immaculate form and providing the platform for this winning run of form.
