Bayern Munich turn to Lookman after Jackson deal collapses | OneFootball

Bayern Munich have approached Atalanta over a deal for forward Ademola Lookman.

The German champions have proposed a loan with a sizeable fee attached and an option to buy at a significant price.

The 27-year-old is keen to leave Atalanta this summer and views the interest from Bayern as a major step forward in his career.

Inter Milan have also pursued him, but Atalanta are unwilling to sanction a move to a Serie A rival.

The approach comes days after Bayern’s attempts to sign Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea collapsed.

Jackson had travelled to Munich for a medical, but Chelsea pulled out of the agreement after Liam Delap suffered a hamstring injury.

Bayern’s need for reinforcements has grown following the sale of Leroy Sane and the long-term injury to Jamal Musiala during the Club World Cup.

Lookman has enjoyed a revival in Italy since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig for around €10 million in 2022.

He bagged 20 goals and seven assists in 40 appearances as Atalanta finished third in Serie A and secured Champions League football last term.

His defining moment came in May 2024 when he scored a hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen.

The German side had just completed a domestic double and were unbeaten in 51 games, but Lookman’s performance earned Atalanta their first trophy in 61 years and their first European title.

The Nigerian international also registered 17 goals and 10 assists the previous season, establishing himself as one of the most dangerous attackers in Europe.

Lookman began his career at Charlton Athletic before spending time with Everton, Leipzig, Fulham and Leicester City.

He struggled for consistency during that period but has flourished under Atalanta, climbing to 14th in last year’s Ballon d’Or rankings.

His time in Bergamo has not been without difficulties, including criticism from then-coach Gian Piero Gasperini after a missed penalty in the Champions League against Club Brugge.

Gasperini has since departed to join Roma, and Lookman has made clear his intention to seek a new challenge abroad.

With less than 24 hours remaining in the transfer window, Bayern hope to strike an agreement quickly.

Lookman is open to the move and views Munich as the ideal stage to continue his career.
