On matchday 19 of the ongoing 2024/25 Bundesliga season, Bayern Munich travelled to the Europa-Park Stadion to take on the mid-table side – SC Freiburg.

Following the disappointing 3-0 loss in Rotterdam to Feyenoord just three days earlier, in the European Champions League, the record German champions would have been in search of a resounding bounce-back victory against the host team. However, in a game of ebbs and flows, Freiburg made sure that Bayern were made to work hard for the 2-1 victory. Let us now take a look at three players who were major contributors in helping Die Roten return to winning ways on Saturday evening.

Kim Min-jae

With Dayot Upamecano missing due to injury, Kim Min-jae had to step up alongside Eric Dier in the heart of the Bayern defense. It was refreshing to see the South Korean defender do just that after being at fault on Wednesday for the first goal conceded against Feyenoord.

In addition to scoring the decisive second goal on Saturday, the 28-year-old defender gave a commanding performance in defense. Kim had a whopping 132 touches in the game. He won all three of his contested ground duels and two of his five aerial duels, but he wasn’t at fault for the lone goal that Bayern conceded which was headed in from a corner kick. His fine all-round performance also included two interceptions and eight recoveries. Considering the knee and Achilles discomfort that he has been playing with for a few months now, the Bavarian faithful can be pleased with his performance on Saturday evening.
