Bayern Munich ready to sell Joshua Kimmich for £25 million | OneFootball

Joshua Kimmich and Bayern Munich now look almost certain to part ways this summer.

This is according to Bild, who claim that “hardly anyone at the club believes [his talks with Bayern] will come to a happy ending.”

The news will be encouraging for Manchester United, who are reported to retain an interest in the German international despite apparently being rebuffed a few months ago.

The 29 year old has one year left on his contract, meaning that Bayern have a choice to cash in now or lose him on a free contract in a year’s time.

Bild reports that “The trend at the club was clear beforehand: the decided change in the squad after a title-less season should also affect Kimmich. The professional is one of the players who is allowed to leave.

“In central midfield, he is not considered the first choice under new coach Vincent Kompany (38). Joao Palhinha (28, Fulham FC) is to be signed. Josip Stanisic (24) comes back from Leverkusen for the full-back position.”

In other words, assuming Bayern complete the Palhinha deal, Kimmich will be surplus to requirements.

The player has also blotted his copybook with the powers-that-be in Bavaria, who are “upset about statements” in a TV documentary in which “among other things, Kimmich complained about the lack of protection during the corona pandemic, when he did not get vaccinated for a long time.”

The report goes on to say that Bayern are demanding between €30-€40 million (around £25-£34m) for the player.

Barcelona are credited with an interest but they are not in a financial position to make that work and a loan will surely be out of the question in the last year of his contract.

A big obstacle for any club interested in acquiring Kimmich’s services is his salary, which Bild estimates as “almost 20 million euros” (over £300,000 per week). With Ineos determined to reduce the wage bill at Old Trafford, it is unlikely they would be willing to match that.

On the other hand, at 29 years of age, Kimmich will know that if he waits out his contract, he will not be able to command anything like that amount at his next club, regardless of who that might be.

A three or four year deal now, even taking a hit on his salary, might be tempting enough to encourage the midfielder to jump ship.
