Bayern Munich ended a disappointing week on a high note by collecting all three points against FC Heidenheim. The Bavarian club failed to keep a clean sheet on Saturday but managed to outscore visitors and win the game by a 4-2 scoreline.

Courtesy of the win on Saturday, Bayern extended their lead to six points at the top of the Bundesliga table. Die Roten dominated the visitors thoroughly on Saturday, but a couple of defensive mistakes allowed Heidenheim to get on the scoresheet.

After the disappointing 1-0 loss against Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB Pokal on Tuesday, Vincent Kompany will be pleased with the way the team bounced back on Saturday. Let us look at some of the key takeaways from the win against Heidenheim.

Jamal Musiala continues to make a difference for Bayern: Boon and Bane?

Musiala was given rest on Saturday as he started on the bench. However, Kompany had to bring the 21-year-old in the second half when Bayern were being held by Heidenheim at 1-1. Musiala made an instant impact and ended the game with two crucial goals.

The young German attacking midfielder has been in fine form ever since returning from a minor injury in October. He has scored crucial goals away from home and helped Bayern to clinch multiple 1-0 victories. In the absence of Harry Kane, Musiala is Bayern’s primary outlet for goals.

It is pleasing to see Musiala taking more responsibility in the final third. He has improved his finishing by adding headed goals to his game. Moreover, he has much better awareness in and around the box, helping him to make the needed movement. However, Bayern cannot just rely on Musiala to make things happen in the final third. Die Roten need other attacking players to step up and chip in with goals and assists, or else they will end in a difficult position if Musiala suffers an injury.
