After two seasons out on loan to gain valuable first-team experience, the 18-year-old attacking midfielder now stands at a crossroads. His current loan spell with FC Heidenheim has been a success, and on the club side, Heidenheim are keen to keep him. But Bayern may have different plans.
Speaking to Sky Germany, Heidenheim CEO Holger Sanwald made it clear: “Paul knows we want to keep him. His agent knows it. Bayern knows it. We believe it would be good for him to stay, everything fits, and we hope it stays that way.”
However, Bayern could thwart Heidenheim’s hopes. According to Sky's Florian Plettenberg, the record champions are indeed open to loaning Wanner again next season, but only to a club that fits a more ambitious profile. The preference is for a technically strong team with European football on offer, something Heidenheim cannot provide.
With Bayern setting high standards for Wanner’s next step, the ball is now in their court. Whether that means another Bundesliga loan, a move abroad, or even a return to München, remains to be seen.
