“I think players at his level, not so many clubs can sign him,” said AS Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro in reference to Maghnes Akliouche (23).
Monaco have slapped a big price tag on the France youth international. The Principality club want around €60m for the player, a figure few are able to pay. It means that, at the start of the transfer window, interest has been limited. Manchester City were touted as a potential destination before they opted to instead sign Rayan Cherki from Olympique Lyonnais. Paris Saint-Germain, a long-term admirer, are yet to make their move. Nottingham Forest have been linked, too, but those links came before their end-of-season collapse. Competing in the UEFA Europa Conference League next season, it remains to be seen whether they can act on their interest and satisfy Monaco’s demands.
Tottenham Hotspur, who will play in the UEFA Champions League, could yet be a possible destination for Akliouche, as could Bayer Leverkusen, as per Florian Plettenberg. He understands that the Bundesliga side have been closely monitoring the Monaco forward, with initial talks having already taken place.
However, Les Monégasques’ asking price is a sticking point. The 23-year-old is considered a “dream signing“, according to Plettenberg, but one difficult to pull off.
