Raphinha has undisputedly been one of the biggest performers for Barcelona this season, racking up 20 goals and 11 assists.

The winger most recently produced a stellar performance in the 5-1 win over Real Betis, as he notably scored a goal, thus taking his tally to 20 goals for the season.

Raphinha leads Barcelona’s Brazilian legends of the past

In the wake of Raphinha’s display against Real Betis, a recent report from MARCA has offered a comprehensive glimpse of all the Brazilian legends of the past and how they have performed against Raphinha.

Turns out, Raphinha leads the likes of Neymar, Ronaldo and Rivaldo in terms of the number of goals scored by the month of January in a season.

As mentioned earlier, Raphinha’s current tally stands at 20 goals in 28 competitive matches – a figure that was not reached before by any of the Brazilian stars of the past.

This includes former Ballon d’Or winners Ronaldo, Rivaldo, and Ronaldinho. Even modern star Neymar was not able to match that figure in any of the seasons at Barcelona.

To find someone who surpassed Raphinha you have to go back to the 1960s, specifically to the 61-62 season, when Evaristo de Macedo accumulated 21 goals in 21 games by the first month of the year between league matches and the now defunct Fairs Cup.

This is indicative of the kind of turnaround Raphinha has been enjoying this term, especially after a difficult campaign under the previous manager Xavi Hernandez, who was not a big fan of the Brazilian international.

However, under the leadership of Flick, things have changed for Raphinha. The former Leeds United star has been playing with more confidence and dedication, which has been reflected in his performances on the pitch.

Raphinha is already sixth in the all-time top Brazilian goalscorers at Barça, having recently gone past another icon in Romario.

Having already doubled his goal tally from his first two seasons at Barcelona, Raphinha has an excellent chance of further increasing his tally and perhaps even reaching the 50-goal involvement mark.

For now, though, the Brazilian will be focused on the upcoming task at hand, as Barcelona take on Getafe later tonight.
