The future of Ronald Araujo at FC Barcelona has been a topic of much speculation in recent weeks, with the defender’s contract expiring in 2026.

Barça have sent a renewal proposal to the centre-back but are yet to receive a response, fuelling the rumours, especially with Manchester United intent on signing the 25-year-old.

Barcelona see Araujo as non-transferable

Despite all the speculations and the interest that Araujo is attracting, Barcelona do not consider a sale and consider the Uruguayan centre-back as ‘non-transferable’, reports Mundo Deportivo.

Araujo has been approached by several clubs to tempt him, knowing that he is two years away from finishing his contract, that he has had doubts about his continuity and has not yet responded to the renewal offer made to his agents.

Faced with this situation, the response from Barcelona is firm – Araujo is a very important player and one of the captains, still has two years left on his contract and new manager Hansi Flick counts on him.

A sale will only be considered for ‘XXL’ offers

The report adds that the only scenario that a sale would be considered is if Araujo himself asks to leave and even then if he is able to bring in ‘XXL’ offers.

Barcelona see the transfers of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea in the recent past as references with the two midfielders being signed for €133 million and €121 million, respectively.

As far as the Catalans are concerned, Araujo’s value this summer is higher than that of the two aforementioned players. Furthermore, he is protected by a release clause worth €1 billion.

As such, a sale will be considered only if a mega offer in excess of €100 million arrives.

Manchester United have shown an interest in the 25-year-old as mentioned previously while the likes of Bayern Munich and Chelsea have also been linked.

Araujo, for his part, is currently fully focused on the Copa America. Any decision regarding his future will be made only after he returns.
