According to Fernando Polo’s report in Mundo Deportivo, Nico Williams will soon meet with his family and representatives to make a final decision on Barcelona’s offer, as the winger needs to give a clear ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to joining Barça.
The journalist mentions that at the moment, Nico’s top choice is still Barcelona, but negotiations hit a snag at the end of last week, stalling progress on the deal.
The problem is Nico’s request for a special guarantee. He wants a clause in his contract stating that if Barcelona cannot register him in La Liga, the club would let him leave freely.
However, Barça rejected this idea because it could create serious legal issues. Barcelona are confident they will comply with La Liga’s 1:1 financial rule by selling players, arranging loans, and renewing contracts.
They believe these moves will free up enough salary space to register Nico properly. But for the deal to work, they need Nico and his camp to trust the club’s plan.

Barcelona do not want to take any unnecessary risks, and they hope Nico will trust that they can register him without issues.
One compromise the club is considering is allowing Nico to leave if they can’t register him, but in that case, the new club would have to pay the same amount Barça would have spent to sign him.
As for Nico’s buyout clause, which stands at €58 million plus adjustments for inflation, bringing the total close to €62 million, negotiation sources have said that no deal can move forward until Nico says ‘yes’.
Only after that can contracts be prepared, approved, signed, and the buyout clause officially paid.
The money would then be transferred by Nico’s agent on behalf of Barcelona, with all required documents proving the payment comes from the club. However, the club has indicated that this process won’t happen this week.
