The goal at FC Barcelona is always to reform and upgrade the team wherever and whenever it is possible. La Blaugrana, despite their financial hurdles, are a team that is expected to compete every season regardless of limitations. Even now, Barcelona continue to work as they look for new ways to improve the team.
While it is close to impossible to expect the club to sign global superstars right now, precisely due to their financial frustrations, they are working on other ways to reinforce and safeguard the team as much as possible. Normally, this includes making sure to retain the key players already in the squad.
That is why one of the team’s primary objectives has been to renew the contracts of their most promising youngsters in order to retain them for the years to come. One such player is 17-year-old Marc Bernal, who remains a player that the club sees as an essential piece for their future.
According to the latest information provided by ESPN’s Moises Llorens (h/t Barca Times), that contract renewal for Bernal could end up becoming official sooner than previously expected. As per his information, Barcelona are looking to announce the renewal this week.
Furthermore, he even revealed and hinted that the reason behind the urgency to make this renewal official is to avoid any confusions over the player’s future as much as possible. He did so by revealing that both Manchester United and Newcastle United were willing to pay his €20 million release clause.
Knowing that the financial might of the Premier League is always a troubling opponent to hold off, Barcelona want to get this contract renewal over the line as soon as possible. Once it is settled, it would give the Catalan giants a lot of breathing room.
Unfortunately for Bernal, however, the wait continues for his return to the pitch. Having suffered an ACL injury against Rayo Vallecano, it is expected that his season is now over and it will take quite some time before he can officially return and represent the Catalan club once again.
