Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal has given a clear message about his ambitions, making no secret of his dream to one day win the Ballon d’Or.

The 18-year-old forward is already among the 30 nominees for the 2025 edition of the award, and he admits that being part of the list at such a young age is something truly special.

“As a team, winning the Champions League with Barça would be incredible, and individually, every player wants to win the Ballon d’Or, and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying,” he said while speaking from Spain’s training camp.

He further added, “Being there at 18 is something to be valued, and I hope it happens.”

His words reflect the confidence and maturity he has shown since breaking into the Barcelona first team under former manager Xavi.

Despite his age, Yamal has quickly become one of the most important players for both club and country.

For what it is worth, Yamal’s nomination for the Ballon d’Or at just 18 is a sign that his name will likely be in the conversation for many years to come.

The Ballon d’Or ceremony will be held on September 22 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.

Barcelona will be strongly represented this year, with Pedri, Robert Lewandowski, and Raphinha joining Yamal on the 30-man shortlist.

It shows the depth of quality the Blaugrana possess in their squad and the bright future ahead under Hansi Flick.

Currently away on international duty with Spain, Yamal was also asked whether he would prefer winning the Champions League or the World Cup.

His response showed his hunger to win everything possible. “Champions League or World Cup? Since I’ll compete in both, I would say the two,” he concluded.
