The transfer of Nico Williams is entering its final stages. Both FC Barcelona and the player are fully committed to the move, and the Catalan club has set aside the funds required to pay his release clause, which will be triggered before 9 July.
Now, according to SPORT, Nico and Barcelona have been working on adjusting the salary structure to enable his registration, and the player’s determination is proving essential to completing the signing this summer.
Barcelona and Nico quickly reached an agreement on the final salary amount and the contract duration.
The 22-year-old winger will sign for six years, allowing the club to amortise the operation more easily.
More importantly, he has agreed to a progressive salary structure, taking a reduced wage in his first season which will increase over the course of the contract – effectively deferring part of his earnings.

The flexibility shown by the player speaks volumes about his strong desire to wear the Blaugrana shirt and has made possible something that was not achievable a year ago.
The main challenge has been fitting the operation within the salary cap limits. Barcelona are confident they will return to the 1:1 rule in July, based on discussions with La Liga. Nevertheless, salary space is still needed.
The sporting department is working to finalise as many departures as possible, including players like Clement Lenglet and Ansu Fati, with others to follow.
As such, Barcelona are fully confident that the transfer will go through smoothly and that he will be registered without issues – thanks largely to the concessions made by Nico himself.
If everything proceeds according to schedule, the transfer will be finalised before 9 July so that Nico can begin pre-season training with the team, even if his official registration takes a few additional days.
The player has received full assurance from Barcelona that he will have a squad number and be eligible to play in the first match of the season – largely due to his own efforts.
