A member of the goalkeeper ranks at Barcelona finds himself back on the transfer radar of La Liga rivals Celta Vigo.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Iñaki Peña as the player in question.
Peña is for his part fresh off something of a difficult campaign in Catalunya’s capital in 2024/25.
Thrust into a surprisingly prominent role owing to the long-term injury suffered by Marc-André ter Stegen, the 26-year-old, for the most part, went on to impress in Hansi Flick’s XI.
Before long, however, Peña was forced to watch on from the bench once more, as free agent signing Wojciech Szczęsny usurped the Spaniard in the Blaugrana goalkeeper pecking order.
With Szczęsny having since been rewarded by way of a two-year contract extension, and Joan García’s arrival from Espanyol long confirmed, it has in turn come as no great surprise to hear of Peña eyeing a new challenge.
Negotiations, it is understood, have already taken place regarding a potential contract termination for the shot-stopper.
And though as much is not a viable option until Barcelona manage to register both Szczęsny and Joan with La Liga, another Spanish top-flight club are nevertheless closely monitoring Peña’s situation.
As per a report from Sport:
‘Iñaki Peña is an interesting target for a team that always looks towards Barça, in Celta Vigo. In recent times, Oscar Mingueza and Carles Pérez have arrived, and this summer, they have signed Ferran Jutglà.’
It now remains to be seen if an agreement is ultimately found to terminate Peña’s terms at the Camp Nou, at which point Celta would quickly enter the fray.
