Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong has ruled out the possibility of departing the club as a free agent in the summer of 2026.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have on Monday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.
De Jong’s future has of course long proven a headline talking point at Barcelona.
Ahead of the expiration of the Dutchman’s Blaugrana contract in a little over a year’s time, the parties are yet to come to an agreement on the terms of a renewal.
De Jong has spent recent months reestablishing himself as an absolutely pivotal figure in Hansi Flick’s squad, giving rise to fresh hope of an extension agreement being worked out.
And as per the aforementioned MD, if the player himself has his way, then this will indeed prove the case.
Amid confirmation that De Jong has set his sights on an extended stay at the Camp Nou, it is concluded that:
‘The Dutchman is clear that, out of loyalty, he is not considering leaving for free, as a free agent, from the club that made a significant financial commitment to him. De Jong wants to renew with Barça and in this sense he has given very clear instructions to his agent, Ali Dursun.’
