A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona is proving himself a leader both on and off the pitch over the season’s early goings.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Iñigo Martínez as the player in question.
Stopper Iñigo, for his part, is of course fresh off a surprisingly prominent start to the new campaign.
Owing to a series of injury problems at the heart of Barcelona’s backline, the Spaniard has been afforded starts in all five of the Blaugrana’s La Liga outings to date.
Not only that, but, along the way, Iñigo has taken on the role of his side’s vocal leader at the back.
Hansi Flick, for one, appears to have been thoroughly impressed by the contributions of his experienced defender, whose potential late-window move to Saudi Arabia was stopped dead in its tracks by the club.
And, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, then Iñigo’s role in the dressing room appears to be increasing all the time, too.
As per a report from Diario Sport:
‘Off the field, he is one of the players who is acting as captain without an armband. He is helping the youngsters to stay on track and is an authoritative voice when advice is needed.’
Hansi Flick’s faith in the 33-year-old appears to have been well placed…
