Barcelona come into El Clasico looking like an entirely different side to the one that faced Los Blancos in April at the Santiago Bernabeu. With only Dani Olmo and Pau Victor coming into the side in the summer, Hansi Flick has turned the team around, which is down to three key differences in the eyes of the Blaugrana squad.

That is according to Cadena SER, who say that first and foremost, the training has dramatically changed under the German manager. The players have told Santi Ovalle that they are enjoying the different training methods under Flick, and the new style is to their liking.

The second big change they are benefitting from is the honesty that Flick and their staff have shown, and their willingness to speak with the players about all topics. The German manager is direct, amiable, and far removed from the disciplinarian that he was painted as by soe in the media. He is also careful to continue speaking to the players on the bench, and explain what they need to do in order to contribute more.

Third of all, the relationships between the young players have improved drastically. Beforehand, the group was separated into veterans, including Robert Lewandowski, Andreas Christensen, Frenkie de Jong and Marc-Andre ter Stegen, and the young players. In particular, Lamine Yamal’s status has changed, and his relations with Lewandowski have improved, but on the whole, there is much more of a bond between the squad.

Barcelona look to once again being enjoying themselves on the pitch, freeing them from the tense and turgid football that characterised much of last season. If they can get past Real Madrid, then Flick will have set them up for a successful season in his opening three months of competition. As noted on by Ovalle though, everything goes swimmingly when you win, and the cracks deepen with defeats.
