Barcelona’s downing of Rayo Vallecano on Sunday proved an altogether significant one when it comes to the club’s finances.

Xavi’s troops, of course, marked their return to action a short time ago.

In their penultimate outing of the campaign, Barca welcomed the aforementioned Rayo to Catalunya’s capital, for a La Liga clash.

When all was said and done, the Blaugrana emerged comfortable victors, super-sub Pedri adding to Robert Lewandowski’s early opener by way of a brace, en route to an eventual 3-0 result.

As alluded to above, though, the Catalans’ latest win proved significant for so much more than just a three-point haul.

In addition, it saw Barcelona ensure for themselves a 2nd-placed finish in the La Liga table.

This is important for two reasons.

First of all, it secures for Xavi’s men a place in next season’s Spanish Super Cup, and the financial rewards that come with it.

Not only that, but, as revealed by RAC1 earlier this month, the difference in television rights money afforded to 2nd and 3rd in Spain’s top-flight is also notable.

For finishing out as runners-up, Barca will bag an additional €7 million.
