A sensational Barcelona performance saw the team simply cruise past Valencia in their latest outing. With a 7-1 thrashing, La Blaugrana continue to be among Europe’s most exciting teams to watch this season. However, Barcelona also has a lot of substance beyond just the style that they showcase.
With this recent thrashing, the team has now scored more than a hundred goals in the first 32 games of the season for only the fourth time in the club’s history. A significant feat, but it is also one that only further highlights how good Hansi Flick’s side can be when they are clinical with their chances.
However, that is not the only good news for the team ahead of their next game against Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League. According to AS, 22-year-old Spanish midfielder Pedri has returned to full training with the group already and will be available for that game.
Previously, just before the game against Valencia, the Barcelona Golden Boy was suffering from an illness that kept him sidelined from participating in the game. Still, even without Pedri’s help, Barcelona managed to completely decimate Valencia at the Montjuic Stadium.
Now, heading into the game against Atalanta, Barcelona will have the services of Pedri as well. Similarly, Gavi could be in contention to start after having been rested against Valencia, although that decision had more to do with the player than with Hansi Flick himself.
That would then leave a third spot in midfield that would have a lot of competition around it. Fermin Lopez dropped an all-star performance, and Frenkie de Jong was brilliant in his own right. Even though Marc Casado was solid as well, he could potentially be the player to get some rest this time around if Hansi Flick decides to shift things around.
With the team now aiming to solidify second place in the UEFA Champions League’s initial league phase, they will need a strong lineup to face Atalanta. A tough opponent from the Serie A, but Hansi Flick’s side has enough talent in their squad to field a competitive starting eleven for the game.
