Despite the renewals that FC Barcelona were able to complete during the last month, there are still several players in this Blaugrana squad whose contracts are running out in the coming one and a half years.

One of the most notable of these players is the midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who is also one of the captains of this Barcelona team, and who has been quite an important player for the Blaugranes for the last few years.

He has been engaged in a complicated renewal negotiation with the Catalan club for quite some time now, and there was a lot of speculation about his rocky relationship with the Azulgrana as he did not even respond to a renewal offer that was put on the table for him, which has since been withdrawn.

However, things seem to have improved in recent weeks, as he is getting greater prominence in Hansi Flick’s plans, and he is reportedly also closer to extending his contract now.

In such a context, when his situation still remains uncertain, Mundo Deportivo reports that the midfielder enjoys the support of perhaps the most powerful voice in the club, i.e., Joan Laporta.

The Dutchman is one of the favorite players of Laporta in this Barcelona squad, and the President, always believing in his abilities, would be particularly happy if the midfielder extends his contract beyond 2026.

The top Blaugrana decision-maker does not usually get involved in sporting decisions, but he is also not too shy to take the initiative if his actions can help achieve a breakthrough. This was particularly evident in the negotiations for the renewal of Ronald Araujo.

For now, it remains to be seen how Frenkie performs in the coming months, and what he demands from the club to renew his contract. But from the look of it, if he is ready to stay on reasonable terms, Laporta might be willing to do his part to extend his contract.
