With Barcelona in the market for a new defensive midfielder, a number of options are being assessed as they search for the best fit while keeping in mind the financial constraints.

The Catalans have drawn up a list of potential targets but are also being offered players by agents.

On Tuesday, we reported that Adrien Rabiot had been offered to Barça following the expiry of his contract at Juventus on June 30. Now, it appears that another former PSG midfielder has been presented as an option for the La Liga giants.

Leandro Paredes offered to Barcelona

Indeed, according to Toni Juanmarti of SPORT, Barcelona have been offered the chance to sign Argentine midfielder Leandro Paredes from AS Roma this summer.

Paredes, 30, signed for Roma in the summer of last year and made a solid impression, especially in the second half of the season after Daniele De Rossi took over as manager.

The midfielder, who was part of the Argentina squad that won the FIFA World Cup 2022, is adept at playing in the No. 6 role, and has a contract that expires in the summer of 2025.

As such, there is a good possibility that Paredes could be sold this summer for a low cost. And Barcelona, having been offered an opportunity to sign him last year as well, have been presented with the chance again this year.

Barcelona have other targets

While Barcelona see Paredes as a good-quality player, at this point they have other targets on the agenda.

Indeed, as has already been reported, the Blaugrana are eyeing a move for Everton and Belgium midfielder Amadou Onana as the priority while Mikel Merino of Real Sociedad is seen as an alternative.

In case Barça are forced to go for a low-cost signing, the club would prefer to sign a younger player, potentially on loan, rather than going for someone like Paredes.
