For the last few weeks, the Sporting Department at FC Barcelona has been focusing all of its attention on ensuring the long-term continuity of some of its key players.
In this regard, the Catalans have already completed the renewals of some important members of their squad, including Ronald Araujo, Pedri, Gavi, and Pau Cubarsi, while the youngster Gerard Martin has also been renewed.
But the Blaugranes’ task is still not completed, as Mundo Deportivo reports that Deco is already planning another round of renewals in which three more important players will be approached with a priority, i.e., Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Jules Kounde.
Frenkie de Jong can also be renewed in this round, but a final decision about him will be made keeping in view his performances.
The case for Lamine Yamal is quite clear, as he is already a key player for this Barcelona team despite being only 17 years of age. He will turn 18 in July, and there is already an agreement between the Catalan club and Yamal’s agent, Jorge Mendes, to extend his contract till 2030 when he reaches the age of maturity.
It remains to be seen how much of an improvement in wages he gets in his new contract, but other than that, there are no reasons to doubt his continuity at the Blaugrana club as both the player and his agent have publicly declared that their futures lie at Barcelona.
Raphinha, whose contract runs until 2027, is expected to be offered a two- or three-year extension, given his performances on the pitch and his importance in the dressing room.
Furthermore, his salary is also quite modest when compared with his market valuation, and thus, Barcelona are looking to offer him a renewal at the end of this season.
Jules Kounde’s contract is also ending in 2027, and although this is not the most urgent of operations, the Blaugranes want to reward him for his good performance with a new contract.
Meanwhile, Frenkie de Jong’s operation is more urgent, as his contract expires in 2026. He will get a new contract only if he continues to put in excellent displays, and also if he is willing to bring his wages in line with the club’s economic power.
