It was a pleasant night for FC Barcelona on Sunday as they thrashed Valencia 7-1 in Montjuic, in the process returning to winning ways in La Liga.
It was a top performance from Hansi Flick’s men with Fermin Lopez, having earned a rare start, shining bright with two goals and an assist, and a brilliant performance all-round.
Naturally, the 21-year-old La Masia product was named the MVP of the Match for his excellent display and the youngster could not hide his happiness after the match when he interacted with the media.
Given that Fermin has found minutes hard to come by this season and looked a tad bit scratchy when he has featured, the youngster needed this type of performance to regain his confidence.
“I needed these goals, and the team also needed to win in order to continue fighting for La Liga. We will fight until the end. I wanted to start the year in the best way possible,” said Fermin after the match.
“I believe we have been very effective this season, and we are performing at a very high level up front. It is important to be solid in attack and not concede,” he added.

The Spanish international also reflected on the Blaugrana’s need to break their recent poor form in the league, saying:
“We were coming off a bad run in La Liga, and we really needed this victory. It is important for building confidence.
As for his own performance, he added: “I started the season with a few injuries, and I needed goals to regain my confidence… I am happy because I am helping the team.”
Lopez also highlighted the work of manager Hansi Flick, particularly in motivating those players who have not had as many minutes on the pitch.
“The coach conveys to us that everyone is important and that we are all switched on. Ultimately, this is what it means to be a team; we are a great group,” said the young midfielder.
Fermin concluded by acknowledging that there is still a long way to go in the league campaign.
“There is still a lot to play for, and I am sure that we will fight until the end,” he stated.
