This upcoming season already looks to be one that could give Barcelona some extra headaches. So far this summer already, the Catalan giants are far from having an ideal time. As their rivals continue to strengthen, Barcelona cannot even get one thing right after the other.

Beyond just the calamitous pursuit of a new left-winger, which just so happens to be a demand from Hansi Flick, Barcelona are struggling with other operations as well. Even Marc-Andre Ter Stegen’s situation continues to get complicated, even if a potential surgery could have benefits.

Another big problem is turning out to be the long-awaited return to the Spotify Camp Nou. Even though it was previously expected that the Joan Gamper trophy would be hosted there, it then turned into an unlikely possibility and it has now even been confirmed to be impossible by the club as well.

In fact, things could end up being much worse than simply skipping out on the Joan Gamper trophy. According to SPORT, Barcelona is currently assessing a plan B which would involve returning to the Montjuic Stadium after just having vacated that venue at the end of last season.

After spending around two seasons at that stadium, the club was finally looking forward to returning to the Spotify Camp Nou. However, some issues have forced the club to relocate the Joan Gamper game to the Estadi Johan Cruyff, whereas the Camp Nou’s expected La Liga return could end up being delayed as well.

Even though the club is reportedly working towards returning to the stadium by September, there is already the plan to return to the Montjuic Stadium present as a backup option. However, if the club does return to that stadium and informs both La Liga and UEFA about it being their official venue for home games, Barcelona would be forced to remain there until at least January.

Possibly an even bigger delay to reopen the Camp Nou

This would then mean that the club would have to play all of their UEFA Champions League group stage games at that stadium, which is a considerable financial loss when compared to the revenue that the Camp Nou would have generated. Unfortunately, this is hardly from the ideal scenario but it could be a very real one.

However, there is a dispute within the club as per the report over what to do if they return to the Montjuic Stadium. Some within the club prefer to stay there for the entire season in that case so that the Camp Nou can undergo the construction process more smoothly, while others consider that too big of a financial setback.

For now, the only recent good update in regards to next season has been the unveiling of Lamine Yamal as Barça’s new number ‘10’. On that front, moreover, Barcelona are seeing the numbers surge when it comes to shirt sales this summer.
