Joshua Kimmich, the stalwart midfielder for Bayern Munich and the German national team, is poised at a crossroads in his career.

Interestingly, journalist Florian Pletternberg has suggested that he is willing to enter the final year of his contract with Bayern, signalling a potential departure from the Bavarians either this summer or the next.

This decision comes despite having a contract in place until 2025 and a reluctance to extend his stay, prompting Bayern to actively consider selling him to bolster their finances.

As a key figure in both club and country lineups, Kimmich’s possible move this summer hinges on receiving a suitable offer and as of today, he has expressed a clear preference for joining one of five elite clubs: Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Why did Real Madrid want Kimmich?

Among these, Real Madrid initially eyed him as a successor to the retiring Toni Kroos, valuing Kimmich’s adeptness in midfield.

However, the financial dynamics of the transfer market suggest that any potential deal for Kimmich would likely come at a reduced price from his estimated market value of €50 million.

Real Madrid, seeking a dependable replacement for Kroos, initially considered Kimmich but have since appeared hesitant, possibly due to uncertainties surrounding the financial terms of his departure from Bayern.

Despite Real Madrid’s initial interest, it appears they are reevaluating their pursuit of Kimmich, perhaps acknowledging the complexities and costs involved in securing his services.

There could be a belief that since signing him is not a priority, they can afford to see the market movements and if nothing materialises until the summer of 2025, they might approach the player if things are not working in their midfield.

In conclusion, Kimmich’s future at Bayern Munich is uncertain. With his contract running out in 2025 and his refusal to extend it, the Bavarians are compelled to consider selling him.

The coming months will be crucial in determining where Kimmich will play next, with Bayern needing to decide whether to sell now or wait and possibly get less in the future.
