Barcelona make contact with Liverpool star over becoming Hansi Flick’s assistant | OneFootball

A head-turning story surrounding the plans of La Liga giants Barcelona to add to the coaching staff of incoming manager Hansi Flick has today been forthcoming.

The info comes courtesy of Diario AS, and points towards the Blaugrana brass as having set their sights on Thiago Alcântara.

Midfielder Thiago will for his part become a free agent this summer, upon the conclusion of his contract terms with Liverpool.

Still just 33, the widespread expectation is that, despite barely playing this season owing to injury, the Spanish international will ultimately go on to extend his time on the pitch.

As alluded to above, though, if one club from his home country have their way, Thiago could yet find himself on the touchline in 2024/25.

As per the aforementioned AS, Barcelona have earmarked the club’s former midfielder as a target to act as an assistant to the incoming Hansi Flick this summer.

Flick has previous first-hand experience of Thiago’s insights into the game, owing to a shared stint together at Bayern Munich.

And with Deco and the Barca board eager to bring in something of a ‘link’ between their German tactician, and the club’s playing squad, Thiago is viewed as the perfect profile.

Tentative contacts have in turn been initiated between the parties, albeit with Barcelona having been left less than encouraged by the response from Thiago’s camp.
