On-loan Barcelona star Eric García was last night drawn on the fresh chants aimed in his direction on the part of the Girona faithful.

Eric, for his part, played his part in high-flying Girona bringing their campaign to a close in supreme style on Friday.

As much came by way of a 7-0 drubbing of relegation-condemned Granada, during which the stopper helped himself to the opening goal of the evening.

Following as much, the home fans in attendance at the Estadi Montilivi made their feelings with Eric clear, calling for him to extend his stay beyond its current close in the summer.

The 23-year-old is of course on loan with Girona from Catalan neighbours Barcelona, with his performances across the season having proven absolutely central to the Blanquivermells’ success.

Barca head coach Xavi previously made clear his hope of having Eric back at his disposal for next season.

With the Spaniard having since been sent packing by the Camp Nou brass, however, the future of the former Manchester City man has been thrown up in the air once more.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle on Friday night, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of as much was put to Eric himself.

And the stopper, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, went on to issue a professional response, as follows:

“I have always said it. I have a contract with Barça. I will return there and then we will see what happens.”
