The future of Nico Williams has once again become the hottest topic in the transfer market this summer.

Just like last summer, Barcelona have again emerged as one of the potential suitors for the Athletic Club winger, although Premier League giants Arsenal and Chelsea, as well as Bayern Munich, are also interested in his services.

Barcelona in pole position to sign Nico

As uncertainty over Nico’s future continues, Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg has given a crucial update.

As per the journalist, Barcelona appear to be best-placed to sign Nico this summer, moving ahead of Chelsea, Arsenal and Bayern Munich in the race to sign the forward.

This is hardly surprising considering the fact that Nico is determined to play for the Blaugrana and has even reportedly pleaded with the Barcelona players to ‘take him’.

Plettenberg has confirmed that important negotiations have taken place within the past 24 hours, which may just tilt the table in Barça’s favour.

The club’s president, Joan Laporta, is currently assessing the feasibility of the transfer and whether or not Barcelona can register him immediately.

Once Barça get the green light, the club are expected to go ahead and make a move for the Spanish international this summer.

Bayern Munich have been informed of this development and it appears the Bavarians are waiting to see if Barcelona can pull off the deal.

Should the Catalans fail, one would expect the Bundesliga giants to come in and make a swoop for the Athletic Club winger, although Arsenal and Chelsea are equally interested.

The coming few days could prove to be critical as Barcelona look to find ways to fund a move for Nico Williams’ €62 million release clause.
