Barcelona are on fire this summer, working up some crucial signings and not holding back on the departure front with even names like Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ronald Araujo linked with possible transfers.
Alongside transactions involving other clubs, however, the administration are also working on renewals of existing stars to ensure their contracts are at no risk of running down.
Mundo Deportivo brings to light that the defence is of particular importance on that front with the administration looking to safeguard the department with key extensions.
Of all the defensive players in talks with the club over extensions, Jules Kounde is the one whose situation least perturbs the management.
His current deal with Barcelona runs until June of 2027 leaving him bound to the club for two more years at least. Joan Laporta and Co., now, are looking to extend his deal by a further season and it is expected to be smooth sailing given the player’s desire to stay.
Eric Garcia, meanwhile, presents a more complicated case as his deal at the club runs out next summer and he has the choice between renewing or leaving as a free agent.
As it stands, the academy graduate is in talks with the club over a renewal but there has been no concrete progress or development on that front.

His entourage is keeping things quiet for the time being but Laporta is insistent on renewing his deal to avoid any possible departure as a free agent.
Inigo Martinez of the third player who is in talks over an extension. He recently penned a deal to stay at the club for an additional year until 2026 and it remains to be seen if Barcelona make an immediate move to secure his future beyond that.
After all, any further extension at his age must only be given after evaluating his consistency and level over the coming season. Yet, Laporta’s decision to fortify the defence implies that talks with Martinez are also in place.
The final defender whose contractual status is unfavourable is Andreas Christensen whose deal runs out next summer. As it stands, Barcelona have placed him on the transfer market and it remains to be seen what comes of it.
Meanwhile, in goal, Wojciech Szczesny is one player who is in conversations over a renewal and, in fact, has everything ready to sign and confirm the deal. The Pole is waiting to confirm the future of Ter Stegen, but the announcement of his renewal can be expected soon.
