Former Liverpool and Real Madrid goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek recently shared his opinion on Wojciech Szczesny, comparing him to Barcelona’s current goalkeeper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
According to Dudek, while Ter Stegen excels in certain areas, Szczesny would be a better option in goal. Dudek’s assessment was not intended to criticise the German goalkeeper, but rather to highlight the differences in their playing styles and strengths.
Dudek acknowledged that Ter Stegen is particularly skilled with his feet, which fits Barcelona’s style of play. However, he emphasised that Szczesny is superior when it comes to traditional goalkeeping abilities, such as shot-stopping.
“Sportingly he would fit in, although he is a very different goalkeeper to Ter Stegen, who is very good with his feet. Now Barça’s style of play is different.
“Ter Stegen plays better with his feet, but Szczesny is superior in goal,” said Dudek as quoted by SPORT.
The former Real Madrid and Liverpool player even suggested that Szczesny would be a good fit for Barcelona.
He mentioned that Szczesny enjoys warm weather and would likely appreciate living in a city like Barcelona, especially since he has been residing in Marbella since his time in Turin.
“He would be a good option, I already talked about it when Juventus told me they were not counting on him for this season.”

Moreover, Dudek pointed out the strong relationship between Szczesny and Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski. The two players are close friends, and Dudek believes that having Lewandowski at the club would ease Szczesny’s transition, helping him to settle in more quickly.
This friendship could make Szczesny’s adaptation to life at Barcelona smoother, both on and off the pitch.
“Being next to Lewandowski, the two of them would feel good playing in the same team,” he added.
However, Dudek also expressed some reservations about such a move, noting that Szczesny had previously mentioned wanting to take a break from football.
This could make a sudden switch to Barcelona seem unexpected. Despite this, Dudek is confident that Szczesny’s professionalism would make him a suitable replacement for Ter Stegen, even though their styles of goalkeeping differ significantly.
“It would be surprising because he said he wanted to rest. It would be surprising and frivolous. As far as I know, I consider Szczesny to be a serious person.
“[He would be] A good replacement for Ter Stegen, even though he is different from Ter Stegen,” concluded the former Real Madrid keeper.
