According to a recent update from MARCA, Barcelona goalkeeper Inaki Pena has made a decision about his future.

As per the outlet, he will leave Barça this summer and continue his career outside of Spain.

The young shot-stopper has been weighing his options for some time, and his choice comes after losing his spot as the team’s starting goalkeeper last season when Wojciech Szczesny took over.

Garcia’s arrival the final nail in the coffin

The recent arrival of Joan García only reinforced the idea that Barcelona do not see Pena as part of their long-term plans, despite his solid performances in the first half of last season.

Pena has decided that unless a surprise offer comes in from another Spanish club, he will not continue playing in La Liga.

Instead, he is focused on opportunities abroad and already has several offers on the table from clubs outside Spain. His preference is clear: he wants a fresh start in a new league where he can secure regular playing time and further his career.

Exit before pre-season training

Pena’s decision comes with urgency, as Barcelona’s preseason training is set to start on the 13th of this month.

The goalkeeper wants his future resolved before then so he can join his new team on the first day of training.

If a deal is not finalised in time, he would still be required to report back to Barcelona, since he has one year left on his contract with the club.

However, both Pena and his representatives are working quickly to ensure he can move before Barça’s preseason begins.

Barcelona hold some cards

Although his priority is to be part of his next club’s plans from day one, the only question that remains is the transfer fee Barcelona will demand for his departure.

Given the current situation, with four goalkeepers on the books, Barcelona do not hold a strong negotiating position.

This makes a quick, reasonable deal likely, as both the player and the club aim to move forward as soon as possible.
