Ferran Torres spoke to the media today ahead of FC Barcelona’s UEFA Champions League clash against SL Benfica on Tuesday night.
The Spanish forward, who has been in and out of the team and not a regular starter under Hansi Flick, has reportedly emerged as a possible transfer target for AC Milan for the ongoing transfer window.
However, Ferran made it abundantly clear that his future lies at Barcelona, where he intends to play many games and win a lot of trophies.
“I have a lot of confidence in the club. It’s been a period of learning since I arrived. The future is to play here and play many games and win many titles with Barça,” said the Spanish international.
Talking about his situation in the team and his role as an impact substitute, the former Manchester City forward added:
“I’m recovered from my minor injuries. The coach gives me confidence and I always try to give it back to him in whatever way I can. I don’t like the role of a substitute, I have to make the most of my minutes to show that I can be a starter.”
The forward also highlighted his versatility as an important aspect, saying: “Versatility in an attacking player is always good. I’ve been feeling better as a striker lately, since I came here three years ago. I always try to give my best.”
Looking forward to tomorrow’s match against Benfica, Torres insisted that the Blaugrana wish to secure all three points and secure a place in the knockout stage.
“The Champions League is always a very important competition with a different atmosphere. We want to win the three points and get the qualification.”

While Barcelona’s form in the other competitions has been impressive, they have been poor in La Liga in recent weeks, collecting just six points from their last six games. When asked to explain why this was the case, Ferran said:
“It’s true that in recent years we haven’t had the results in the Champions League that we all wanted. In the league we haven’t given the level we should have given, we’ve dropped points that can penalise us.
“We have to turn the situation around and get as many points as possible.”
Ferran also briefly touched upon the situation of his fellow forward Ansu Fati, who was back in the Barcelona squad after being left out for four matches in a row.
“Since he has recovered I have seen him at a high level in training, I try to help him as much as I can. Football is all about ups and downs and you have to know how to manage those ups and downs,” said Torres about the La Masia graduate.
Condemning the racist abuse that his teammate Alejandro Balde received during the draw against Getafe, the forward said:
“‘The first thing is that racist insults are not justified. They are behaviours that should not be allowed, so we should look for a remedy and penalise the people who made them.”
Talking about playing Benfica in their own backyard, Torres stated: “Very happy to be able to play in this stadium. It will be a beautiful match with two historic teams.
“We’ll try to take the game in the direction we want it to go. They are doing a great job. Joao Felix made me more aware of Portuguese football, in a league that is doing a great job.”
Earlier today, Benfica boss Bruno Lage named Barcelona as one of the favourites to win the Champions League. Responding to that, Torres remarked:
“This year we are doing well in the Champions League. It’s a compliment that Benfica’s coach considers us favourites.”
