Local supporters of La Liga giants Barcelona have this week been dealt something of a blow.
This comes amid confirmation that the upcoming Joan Gamper Trophy match will not be played at the Spotify Camp Nou.
Excitement surrounding Barcelona’s incoming homecoming have of course long been mounting in Catalunya’s capital.
As much comes as the long-running Camp Nou renovations inch towards a definitive finish.
The plan laid out on the part of Joan Laporta and co. late last month was for Hansi Flick’s squad to play the annual Joan Gamper Trophy match in August at the club’s newly-refurbished home, in front of a reduced capacity.
Following mounting speculation over recent days, however, it has now been confirmed that this will not be the case.
As per a report from Mundo Deportivo:
‘The Joan Gamper Trophy will be held at the Estadi Johan Cruyff. The official return to the Spotify Camp Nou is now scheduled for the first La Liga home matchday, against Valencia, on either Saturday, September 13 or Sunday, September 14.’
