Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix continue to be on the agenda of FC Barcelona after spending the last season on loan at the club.

Their loan deals came to an end on June 30 and the possibility of re-signing them has been considered but with there being other priorities at the moment, a move for the Portuguese duo has taken a backseat.

However, Barcelona have not entirely lost sight of the ‘Joaos’, with Cancelo still being a priority for the right-back position while Felix could be a last-resort solution if Nico Williams does not join.

Barcelona will only sign the Joaos on loan

Amidst the situation, reports earlier this week suggested that Barcelona had reached an agreement with Manchester City to sign Cancelo on a loan deal for a €7 million fee with a mandatory buy clause worth €18 million.

But, now, Mundo Deportivo reports that those claims are far from the truth as Barcelona do not intend to spend any fees to sign either Cancelo or Felix this summer.

The idea still remains to acquire the two signings only on simple loan deals with no fees involved and take charge of their salary for the next season.

As mentioned earlier, Cancelo remains the priority for the right-back position, with Hansi Flick giving the green light for his acquisition. The player, for his part, is also eager to make the switch.

But with Manchester City pushing for a permanent sale of the full-back, things are in a deadlock currently.

As for Joao Felix, the 24-year-old is no longer a priority target as Barcelona have shifted their focus towards Nico Williams and Dani Olmo.

But with the possibility of Williams’ arrival fading, a last-minute swoop for Felix is not ruled out, although, once again it would only be on a loan deal.
