Barcelona may face a tough summer ahead, as club captain Ronald Araujo has reportedly become a prime target for three of Europe’s top sides, namely, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Chelsea.

According to Fichajes, these clubs are keeping a close eye on Araujo’s situation as  they view him as a serious option to strengthen their backlines in the upcoming transfer window.

Despite signing a contract extension until 2031 earlier this year, Araujo’s future at Barça is far from certain.

The Uruguayan centre-back started the season sidelined due to injury and has struggled to win back his place in the starting line-up under new coach Hansi Flick.

With Pau Cubarsí and Inigo Martinez now forming the core of the defence, Araujo has only managed 14 starts this season—a surprisingly low figure for a player once considered untouchable.

Exit clause sparks transfer buzz

What adds more weight to the rumours is Araujo’s release clause. For a short period in early July, the defender will be available for just €65 million.

In today’s market, that figure represents solid value for a defender with experience at the highest level and leadership qualities.

Bayern Munich have shown renewed interest due to Kim Min-Jae’s inconsistent form, while Juventus see Araujo as part of a major defensive rebuild.

Chelsea, too, are looking for a reliable centre-back after another shaky season at the back and believe the Uruguayan could be the answer.

From Barcelona’s side, much will depend on their own transfer activity this summer. If they need to raise funds or bring in reinforcements elsewhere, Araujo could be one of the players sacrificed—even if he’s still under contract.

As things stand, Araujo’s future remains uncertain. The next few months will be key in determining whether he stays or becomes one of the big moves of the summer.
