Barcelona sold Mikayil Faye to Rennes last summer to improve their financial situation and enable the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.
The Senegalese star’s sale brought €10.3 million into the Catalan club’s coffers and served all parties well, as Barcelona managed to improve their books while Faye moved to a team where he would play first-team football
Now, however, the player’s future is in the air and there are rumours that he could be on the move once more. This comes as great news for Barcelona who hold a portion of his rights and thus, a chunk of the transfer fee.
As relayed by Fabrizio Romano, Bayer Leverkusen have made contact with Faye as one of their primary candidates to reinforce the centre-back position.

They do have more experienced options on their list but they like the former Barcelona star for his high ceiling and age, and it is thus not ruled out that they pursue him over the senior options. The deal completely hinges on Rennes’ stance.
Should a deal go through, Barcelona will be entitled to 30% of the transfer fee that Rennes earn and it will thus be a significant amount.
After all, the French club will not sell him for a cheap fee given his contractual status until 2028.
Given that the Ligue 1 side purchased him for over €10 themselves, they will look to sell him for a figure higher than that so as to net a profit and Barcelona will remain alert to the sum they can take home as well.
So far this season, the 20-year-old defender has made nine Ligue 1 appearances and has overseen one clean sheet in the process, with the Catalans closely monitoring his development.
